SANY Group recently completed the delivery of its 1,000th electric excavator, marking a significant milestone in the electrification of the construction machinery industry. Currently, SANY’s 5G-enabled remote-controlled excavators have been commercially deployed, and unmanned pavers and rollers, as well as integrated intelligent solutions for ports and mines, are already in operation. In recent years, SANY Group has continuously increased its R&D investment, with annual R&D funding exceeding 6 billion yuan, accelerating the company’s transformation from a traditional manufacturer into a robotics, intelligent, and AI-driven enterprise.
For SANY Heavy Industry, equipment upgrades represent not only changes to the powertrain but also a comprehensive enhancement of electrification and intelligent capabilities. Electrification reduces emissions, improves operational efficiency, and lowers operating costs, while intelligent technologies focus on addressing industry challenges such as construction safety, remote operation, and the management of complex working conditions. Traditional construction methods rely heavily on on-site operators, and the working environment is complex and poses certain safety risks. At the same time, early remote-control equipment had limitations in connection stability and user experience, making it difficult to meet the demands of large-scale applications. To address these issues, SANY has spent nearly a decade on R&D and launched the SY550HD 5G remote-control excavator, achieving technological breakthroughs such as low latency, high precision, and intelligent safety. In terms of remote control, the SY550HD leverages 5G communication and AI algorithms to maintain end-to-end system latency between 120 and 140 milliseconds, enabling real-time remote operation from distances of up to 8,500 kilometers. The machine supports public networks, private networks, and hybrid networks, meeting the demands of cross-regional remote construction. For precision operations, the machine utilizes SANY’s proprietary 3D motion sensing and depth recognition technology, combined with an intelligent loading assistance system, to reconstruct the construction environment in real time. This provides operators with a more intuitive operational perspective and enhanced environmental awareness. The system supports high-precision operations under complex conditions and is suitable for scenarios such as mining, remote areas, and emergency construction. In terms of safety, the equipment utilizes multi-dimensional sensors and AI algorithms to enable functions such as personnel recognition, intelligent collision avoidance, and equipment health monitoring, with millisecond-level response times. Additionally, the system automatically collects point cloud data and real-time video to facilitate environmental recognition, risk warnings, and construction coordination, establishing an intelligent construction model characterized by “equipment perception, personnel control, and system coordination.” Looking ahead, SANY Heavy Industry will continue to increase R&D investment, focusing on electric powertrains, AI-assisted construction, unmanned equipment, digital platforms, and intelligent mining equipment. The company will continuously refine its intelligent product portfolio and drive the large-scale commercial application of these technologies.
